Rajinikanth appeals not to give any award in his name

The simplicity and down to earth nature of Rajinikanth is making him rule the Kollywood BO from three decades. When Superstar Rajinikanth says something, it is more often than not significant. On Thursday, Superstar Rajinikanth and his wife Latha made a sincere and humble request to the film fraternity including that not to institute any award in his name. 'I am a simple man. I have not achieved anything big. Then why make an award in my name?' said Rajini. The numero uno actor of South Indian cinema was talking at the annual day celebrations of Ashram Group of Institutions, run by Latha Rajinikanth, in Chennai. At the function, Rajini Legend Awards were given to K Balachander, late Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh. Reacting to this, Rajini said, 'I make a sincere request not to name any award after me.' Following this appeal from the Superstar, it was immediately decided to rename the awards from the next year, as Balachander Legend Awards. Others who were honoured at the function include V S Raghavan (Chevalier Sivaji Award ) A L Raghavan, M N Rajam, Table Tennis player Chandrasekar, musician Vikku Vinayakram, teacher Nithya Agnihotri and cinema historian Film News Anandan (all with Bhishma Awards), and students of Ashram Schools.
